Tongue tie release or Frenectomy is indicated when:
- Speech difficulty
- Eating difficulty (picky eaters)
- Limited mobility of tongue leading to poor oral hygiene
- Patients with sleep apnea – attachment allows the tongue to fall back and obstruct the airway more easily
- High arch palate or narrow upper jaw
- Breast feeding difficulties.
What to expect
- Local Anesthesia
- Attachment under the tongue is release using a laser
- Approximately 10 minute procedure.
Aftercare
- Area will be sore – take pain medication as needed
- Tongue exercise to prevent reattachment.
